El Techo de Lolinda

El Techo de Lolinda - New Kid On The Guac

I had lived in San Francisco for roughly three weeks before my birthday rolled around. Being a foodie in San Francisco, birthday plans are really a golden window of opportunity as your time to shine. Your friends are guilted into going to any venue of your choosing, and you can take your night any way you desire. So I took my night to a Mexican tapas restaurant on a rooftop. Because Mexican. Tapas. Rooftop. Need I say more?!

El Techo de Lolinda is located in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco, which is the major hub of street tacos, burritos and margaritas in the city. Basically, my mothership. El Techo is the name of the rooftop portion, which serves Latin American small plates, and Lolinda is the Argentinian Steakhouse located on ground level. The system is flawless: You can put your name in for El Techo and grab a drink at the bar downstairs in Lolinda while you wait. When your table is ready on the roof and you are two margs deep, you can take that marg right up the stairs and keep on sipping on it while you’re being seated. Bless you, marg genius, for never making me put down my drink, even for a second!

And that ingenuity, my friends, is exactly what I wanted in my life to ring in another year closer to gray hair. The menu was perfect for a small group because Mexican flavors are a crowd-pleaser for all, and the variety offered some unique options like the quesadilla de pibil, but classic dishes like guacamole as well. My friends and I decided to each order one dish for the group, and not to brag or anything, but we picked some serious winners.

Recommended Dishes:

Guacamole (an obvious choice): served with fresh tortilla chips

Ceviche de Camaron: shrimp, lime, radish, red onion, avocado, cilantro

Quesadilla de Pibil: braised pork shoulder, oaxaca cheese, salsas

Pollo Frito (pictured above): fried chicken thigh, jalapeño, cabbage, habanero salsa

Carne skewer: flap meat, onion, zucchini, panca glaze

(Or make your own decisions and see the full menu here)

As I was eating my MIND BLOWING Pollo Frito and sipping on my perfectly crafted cocktail, I was relishing on how absolutely stellar my life was at that very moment. Sitting on a rooftop, marg in hand, enjoying delicious food with great company. How do you beat that?! And then they dropped the gauntlet. Brace yourselves ladies & gents: THEY SERVE BRUNCH.

Mexican small plates for brunch on a rooftop. –> Those are all of my favorite things in the world, rolled into one solid business model. Talk about an award-winning establishment. GO THERE NOW, PEOPLE. THIS PLACE IS UNREAL. Take any excuse you can to dine at this restaurant, stat.

Recommended Celebrations:

Birthdays (like mine!)

First Dates (I actually recommended this restaurant to a random man at a bar who asked me where to take someone on a first date. I kid you not.)

… You catch my drift. Versatile venue, bomb food, great atmosphere. My friends and I agreed that this was a superb choice, and we are already looking forward to going back. Anybody getting a promotion anytime soon?! Let us know. We’d love to help you celebrate over ceviche. Ariba!
