I should probably preface this rant with the following statement: I have eaten a lot of tacos. A LOT of tacos. Way more than the average person. Everyone always says our bodies are made up of 60% water, but honestly, I think I’m 60% tacos. So when I was visiting Austin, TX a couple months ago […]
Am I the only one who has a ‘Wanderlust Eats’ note saved in my phone with lists of restaurants in different cities? I have restaurants saved from Atlanta to Seattle and everywhere in between. Normally, this list generates 90% of my travel plans in any given city. So when I found out I’d be traveling to Atlanta for work, I started planning the eating experience before I even booked my flight, too anxious to wait another minute. Two Urban Licks wasn’t on the list at the time, and boy what a mistake it would have been to miss out on this gem during my 48 hours in Atlanta.
I will gladly stand in line for thirty minutes for a lobster roll. This is a fact I know to be true about myself. I did it many times in San Francisco at Fisherman’s Wharf, and it always proved immensely worth it. Hence, when I went to Boston last month for the Food & Nutrition Conference Expo, I knew that the quest for the best New England lobster roll was at the top of my priority list. Luckily, I was traveling with a local, so she guided me fearlessly to Neptune Oyster and I followed faithfully, visions of seafood dancing in my head.
Amidst lobster rolls, crab cakes, and far too many oysters in Boston, I had the immense pleasure of dining at Alden and Harlow in Harvard Square. As a student at Harvard, Alden and Harlow has always been my favorite place to take visitors when they come into town (or so I told people. What’s the harm in pretending to be Elle Woods’ classmate for a weekend?)
Alden and Harlow specializes in small plates, and trust me, they do it well. With many plant-forward dishes focused on thoughtfully sourced American foods, this is definitely a restaurant for the books. Noted as one of the Best Restaurants in the World by Condé Nast Traveler, the eatery lives up to the title effortlessly.
So here’s how it all went down. Sitting at a happy hour in San Francisco in January, one of my colleagues asked me “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?” (Fun fact: this is one of my favorite questions to ask people.) Without hesitation, I answered “Machu Picchu, Peru”. Probed […]
I love to travel, and try to take any chance I get to explore a new place. So when the opportunity arose to attend a work training in a new city, I jumped at the opportunity. After scanning the locations available, my eyes caught on Dallas, Texas. Visions of barbecue and tex mex danced in […]
